Pigs are the most intelligent animals!! And contrary to popular belief the cleanest animals i have ever had!! (far more tidier than the husband and children!)
Pigs do not need extensive healthcare so regular worming and skin care would be fine. Pigs will eat all your household food scraps plus 2kg of pig feed a day! They are the ultimate recycle animals!
Give good thoughts on what breed you are going for as with most livestock certain breeds perform better for individual needs. We have had Gloucester Old Spots for many years now and they are great porkers, but the Kunes Kunes we have make ideal pets!

Starting with pigs is a fantastic experience, once you have the house a few basic items make the care of them easy. Pigs need their feet trimming if the do not have access to a concrete area and its always good for any livestock to have a mineral block to ensure they are getting all those extra supplements! .. and don't forget, pigs are extremely intelligent so stimulate them with a livestock ball!
The essential care of you pigs is regular worming and care of skin to prevent any mites. Breeding piglets is an experience you will never forget! Piglets may need iron in the first few days to help them. Piglets born in the colder months would also benefit from a heat lamp over once side of the pen so they can keep warm. The big decision is choose to castrate your boys piglets or not. Many people rearing for meat decide to do this so the meat is not 'tainted' And don't forget the Boar Spray if you are Artificially Inseminating your pig to get her in the mood!
