Blackrock Hens

The Blackrock is a prolific layer of large to extra large brown eggs. They are docile birds and easy to handle so make wonderful pets. They are ideal for free ranging but can be just as happy kept in a run. They are also very hardy birds and can cope with most weather conditions and are disease resistant.

We have had Marigold (Blackrock) and Daisy (speckldy) for a week now after collecting them over the Easter weekend. They have settled in really well with our ex batt , Martha Alice, who is ruling the roost but has taken the new arrivals under her wing. We have had a number of eggs over the week so all in all the new girls couldn't have settled in any better. Thanks to all at Happy Chicks

We brought home on Saturday two Blackrocks 'Babs & H'(Babs even laid an egg in the box on the way home), 2 speckeldy 'Mabel & Doris' and 2 blacktail 'Shirl & Gemma'. Took the course prior to purchase and found this invaluable for a first time keeper of chickens. I would highly recommend it. Sarah was fab very helpful and I feel very re-assured she is available on the end of the phone for any future trouble shooting should I have any worries or questions. If you are thinking about keeping chickens then this is the place to purchase them from. Highly recommended all round.

We took on board 4 blackrooks and a light sussex in September last year - Robyn, Rosa, Rusty, Scarlet and Paula - came to live on our allotment. They were very easy to handle and took no time in settling in to their new home. After about 6 weeks, we had our first egg and the others soon followed. We are now getting 4 or 5 delicious eggs every day. The after sales service from Sarah and staff at Happy Chicks has been absolutely brilliant, 1st class. My girls love to have a treat of diced cucumber, grapes and tomatoes in natural yoghurt. Their favourite leaves are spinach, chard and runner bean leaves ... so much so that we will be growing more on the plot next year just for them. Would highly recommend Happy Chicks to anyone.

We got delivery of our 4 girls in October. Kindly introduced to their new home by two friendly and helpful delivery men. After two weeks of them getting used to their new surroundings we were brave enough to let them run free around the garden. They are the best pets I have ever had. Such little darlings. Very nosey and love following me about hoping I am going to give them treats. Very spoilt chickens but the little darlings now have 4 eggs waiting for me each morning. I love them to bits and would always use happy chicks again if I was to purchase more.

We bought our 3 blackrocks back in the spring. After the initial 2/3 weeks in their run they were soon happily forraging in the borders and scratching under the shrubs. We've now brought them indoors as we've had quite alot of snow of late and the gales have been severe. They're very happy scratching around indoors and munching their way through 3 spring cabbages a day. I keep the grow lamps on in the greenhouse which extends their day which is why I'm still getting 2 or 3 eggs. They're partial to wholemeal seeded batch bread soaked in milk and they love cooked brown rice with a little grated cheese and sunflower hearts. They're probably catered for much better than my own family. They're an absolute joy, and I'm hoping my husband will let me have a couple of speckledy's in the springtime. A Merry Christmas to everyone @ Happy Chicks.
